Did you know that Martin Methodist College has been focused on recycling efforts for over a decade?!
Almost every building on campus has a recycling location, and UTS (formerly MMC) has a partnership with Giles Country Solid Waste that allows us to host and operate a “recycling dumpster.” All of your recycling from administrative buildings, residential halls, dining facilities, and classroom buildings is collected and deposited into this community recycling bin!
UTS (formerly MMC) is also committed to reducing waste before it needs recycling, which is why you see so many UTS (formerly MMC) water bottles, reusable coffee mugs, and green to-go containers around campus!

Your challenge this week is a two-part challenge!
- See how much you can reduce. Take your own mugs and containers to the Dining Hall this week, and try to buy as much as you can that doesn’t come with extraneous packaging. Anything you would throw away (that isn’t food or hazardous), collect in a bag.
- See how much you can recycle. Anything that is recyclable (see below for a list), rinse off if needed and collect in a bag separate from your trash.
- Bring in both bags for weighing next Monday, November 16 to see how you did in a week! We’ll weigh your trash versus your recycling, and we’ll have prizes in lots of categories (least amount of trash, most amount of recycling, biggest trash/recycling differential, and more)!
