DESCRIPTION:The investiture of Dr. Melinda Arnold as Chancellor of the University of Tennessee Southern represents a significant milestone as the university continues to advance its mission\, sharpen its academic focus\, and strengthen its role as a regional engine for opportunity\, workforce preparation\, and community impact. This moment reflects both institutional momentum and a shared commitment to student success\, innovation\, and service to Southern Middle Tennessee. \nThe ceremony will include remarks from Chancellor Arnold\, University of Tennessee System President Randy Boyd\, and university and community leaders. Program highlights will feature traditional academic processional elements and the ceremonial presentation of the University Mace—symbols of authority\, stewardship\, and the responsibilities entrusted to the chancellor. \nThe event will begin at 3:00 PM with doors open at 2:00 PM to allow time for seating. Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

The conference will also feature expert presenters from across the state\, including: \n\nState of Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA)\nTN Disability Pathfinder\nTN Technical Assistance Network\nThe Arc Family Engagement Network\nTN START\nRegional behavior specialists and additional service providers\n\nParticipants will gain practical tools\, updated information on available services\, and meaningful connections with agencies and advocates dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. SUMMARY:Guest Speaker Cal Turner\, Former President of Dollar General
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an all-campus open forum on Friday\, October 11\, 2024\, to hear remarks from Mr. Cal Turner Jr.\, for whom the Turner Center is named. \nMr. Turner began his career at Dollar General in 1965\, a company founded by his father and grandfather in 1939. He succeeded his father as president in 1977 and became chairman in 1988. By the time of his retirement in 2003\, Dollar General had grown into a New York Stock Exchange retailer with more than 6\,000 stores across 27 states and annual sales exceeding $6 billion. Mr. Turner chronicled his family’s history and the rise of Dollar General in his 2018 book\, My Father’s Business\, published by Hachette. \nStudent Lunch at the Reveille House will follow.
