DESCRIPTION:Y/A novelist J. Kasper Kramer\, author of the recent Serpent on the Mountain\, will deliver a public lecture\, reading\, and book signing on Monday evening\, September 28\, in the Gault Fine Arts Recital Hall at 6:00 p.m. See Bio below. Jessica Miller\, writing under the name J. Kasper Kramer\, is the critically-acclaimed author of the historical novels Serpent on the Mountain\, The Story That Cannot Be Told\, The List of Unspeakable Fears\, and Eyes on the Sky. Her books have been translated into multiple languages and received numerous honors and awards\, including the Georgia Children’s Book Award and the inaugural Children’s Literature Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission. Originally from Nashville\, Kramer was an early recipient of the Michael and Barbara Barton Scholarship and graduated from Martin Methodist/UT Southern in 2009. She began her career while living abroad in Japan\, but now lives in Chattanooga with her husband\, daughter\, and too many pets. SUMMARY:UTS STEM Olympiad
DESCRIPTION:A bad actor has infested local crops with aphids! We need all STEM Olympiad teams to save the day! The STEM Olympiad is an event where 7th and 8th grade students work through different scenarios to help create a solution to save crops from this bad actor. They will think scientifically and problem-solve as they rotate through the Cyber/CS station\, Math station\, Science/Biology station\, and the Public Speaking/Marketing station. Prior to the event\, team members will collaborate to develop a proposal and “shark tank” pitch that they will promote during the public speaking and marketing rotation. Their pitches will be judged on accuracy of research\, creativity\, innovation\, and presentation of ideas. All other rotations will occur in real-time on UT Southern campus on October 15\, 2026. Local STEM/agricultural professionals will also present information about career pathways into their fields. Additionally\, different academic programs featured at UT Southern\, especially in STEM/agriculture\, education\, cyber\, and psychology will be highlighted.
