About The Martin
The Martin is a first-run movie theater on The University of Tennessee Southern campus in Pulaski, Tenn. We are the only movie theater in Giles County, and in our short history, we have grown to be a reliable source of entertainment for many people in our area.
In 2004, an alumnus of Martin Methodist called our college president with the idea to see a movie theater on the campus of his alma mater. With help from community members, the college agreed to the challenge. There was a significant gift from a major cinema chain and contributions from and support from other groups and individuals. At that point, the dream was to become a reality. In the spring of 2005, Martin Hall Auditorium was renovated to become a multi-purpose movie theater and auditorium.
On April 23, 2005, The Martin opened to huge crowds for the animated feature, Robots, and the Jim Carrey movie, The Majestic. Although The Majestic was a few years old, its theme – the rebirth of a movie theater in a small town – made it a fitting film to show at the black-tie grand opening celebrating our theater’s birth in the small town of Pulaski.
The growth of The Martin has been exciting to see. How many colleges can boast a movie theater on campus? Only a few. We are open Friday evening, Saturday evening, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday afternoons, 48-50 weekends a year. The Martin shares the facility with the Martin Players, the UTS drama department. For one or two weekends each semester, The Martin closes to allow the drama department time to perform its shows.
