Why Fine Arts at UT Southern?

Welcome to the Art program at UT Southern where creativity flourishes and your artistic expression thrives. Nestled within the Victoria and Thomas Martin School of Arts and Humanities, our program offers a rich tapestry of courses spanning art, music, literature, drama, and more. Whether you’re pursuing a major or exploring these disciplines through our general education core, our mission is to cultivate your personal growth, foster cultural awareness, and develop critical thinking and research skills that prepare you for a dynamic future. Our Bachelor of Fine Arts course work offers three concentration options: Art, Dramatic Arts, and Music.

From brush strokes to keystrokes, the Art curriculum is designed to empower you with advanced skills in your chosen artistic mediums. It culminates in a reviewed portfolio and senior exhibition that showcases your artistic journey and accomplishments. Additionally, you’ll develop an E-Portfolio that synthesizes your undergraduate experience, equipping you with the materials needed for post-graduation success.

Foundational courses in art history and design, coupled with specialized studio media options like ceramics and painting, ensure a well-rounded artistic education. Embracing modern technologies like digital imaging and computer graphics, we prepare you to excel in today’s creative industries with hands-on experience using cutting-edge hardware and software. You will also explore interdisciplinary studies through courses like film production and comic book history and have the option to pursue a minor in Graphic Design, which is popular among students interested in advertising.

UT Southern’s Fine Art program is more than an education—it’s a gateway to a bright future where your creativity and passion can thrive in a supportive and inspiring community. Our comprehensive Fine Arts program allows you to hone your artistic skills while opening the door to diverse career paths.

Art offers a rainbow of potential careers catering to diverse interests and talents. From traditional paths like fine artist or gallery curator to dynamic roles in graphic design, illustration, and digital media, opportunities abound for creative expression and professional growth. Art graduates may find themselves crafting visual identities as graphic designers, animating stories as illustrators, or shaping cultural narratives as museum curators. They can also thrive in the fast-paced worlds of advertising, fashion design, and digital arts, pushing boundaries with their innovative perspectives. Whether working independently as freelance artists or collaborating within creative teams, art professionals play pivotal roles in shaping visual culture and impacting audiences worldwide.
