Why Religion and Philosophy at UT Southern?
Welcome to Religion and Philosophy at UT Southern, where we explore the human experience through intellectual inquiry. Housed within the Victoria and Thomas Martin School of Arts and Humanities, our department offers diverse religious studies and philosophy courses. Whether you’re studying these subjects as part of your major or exploring them in our general education core, our aim is to nurture personal growth and critical thinking skills to support lifelong learning.
In the Religion & Philosophy program, you’ll explore diverse religious traditions and philosophical perspectives spanning historical epochs and global cultures. You’ll study the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, examine world religions, and explore ethics, gaining a nuanced understanding of how these traditions shape societies and individual worldviews.
Our curriculum aims to impart knowledge and refine essential critical analysis, research, and effective communication skills. Whether analyzing complex philosophical texts or crafting compelling research papers, you’ll sharpen your ability to think critically and articulate informed perspectives on ethical and philosophical issues. Further, choosing a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy includes foreign language coursework, while pursuing a Bachelor of Science entails studying Computer Literacy.
Our program goes beyond the classroom, offering students opportunities to engage in hands-on learning experiences. These include possible internships and a Senior Capstone that bridge theory with practical application. Whether you’re aiming for graduate studies or a career in education, ethics, social services, or cultural institutions, our program equips you with the practical skills and insights needed to thrive in a diverse and evolving world.
