Dr. Lisa Fowler has spent her entire career working toward improving educational opportunities for teachers and students, especially students from rural communities. She taught in an elementary classroom for 16 years, which is where she established her research agenda which focuses on science and STEM identity formation for girls and youth in rural areas. She carried this work with her to The University of Alabama where she spent 13 years focused on creating community engagement programs and research opportunities to knock down barriers in the sciences while boosting STEM identity for elementary and middle schoolers. Dr. Fowler aims to continue this work in the rural areas of Middle Tennessee as she expands her work into this region.
