UT Southern Alert: This message is sent out of an abundance of caution. UT Southern’s Campus Security received notification of an incident that occurred near campus, at Walgreens. In an effort to provide timely and accurate information to our students, staff, and faculty members, the following information is being provided to you so that you can make informed decisions about your safety. On the evening of Sunday, August 21st, an unknown african american male attempted to kidnap a woman at gunpoint. The assailant was not known to the victim. He was not successful, his whereabouts are unknown. He is on foot, approximately 5’9” and under 30 years old and is said to be wearing either an olive green or purple shirt with acid wash dark shorts. He was carrying a bag. This report is being handled by the Pulaski Police Department. Information we want you to know about your safety and the safety of all Firehawks. • If you encounter the suspect or see them on campus, relocate to a safe location immediately, and contact one of the Witness Contacts below: 9-1-1 Pulaski Police Department (931) 424-4404 Campus Security (931) 309-7502 • Do not engage with the suspect. • In the event you witness something related to this or another incident, report it immediately to Campus Security and provide as much detail as possible. • There is help available on campus for incidents of domestic assault and abuse. Timely Warning Information: Offense(s): Attempted kidnapping with a weapon. Nature of Offense: Suspect did not commit the above offenses against a UTS student but did within close proximity to campus. Do not engage. Information on Clery The Clery Act requires the university to notify the campus community of certain criminal activity that occurs on university owned or controlled property. In addition, the university is required to provide safety tips that may aid in the prevention of similar crimes. The intent of a warning regarding a criminal incident(s) is to enable individuals to protect themselves.
