The mission of the D.W. Johnston Department of Business is to provide a transformative educational experience, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation essential for success in the dynamic world of business. We are dedicated to fostering a collaborative and diverse community that values innovation, leadership, and social responsibility.
Educational opportunities include graduate and undergraduate programs. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is offered at the graduate level. Undergraduate programs include the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and the Bachelor of Science (BS). The BBA offers majors in Accounting, Management, and Management Information Systems (MIS). The BBA in Management offers concentrations in Agriculture and Supply Chain Management. The BS is offered with a major in Computer Information Systems. Undergraduate minors are available in Accounting, Business (for non-majors), Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems (MIS), and Sport Management. Programs are delivered by credentialed faculty in traditional and online formats.

Our History
The D. W. Johnston Department of Business was founded in 1994 to provide a focal point for the business program of the University. The Department is named in honor of Daniel Webster Johnston, a highly respected Nashville businessperson and was a trustee of Martin Methodist College.
Our Community
In addition to real-world learning, students also gain access to the NOVA Entrepreneur Center, a regional hub for innovation and venture development that provides resources, mentorship, and opportunities to turn ideas into action. Undergraduate Program Goals
- Show proficiency in the Common Professional Core areas.
- Apply an ethical framework to business problems.

- Apply and analyze Common Professional Core knowledge areas within the context of business courses.
Core Course Requirements (Undergrad)
To ensure a timely progression through the Business program, students need to take the following courses within the first two years: ACCT 221, ACCT 222, BUS 101, BUS 201, BUS 202, COMM 221, MAT 131 or MAT 231, and MIS 220.
Academic Policy and Assessment Exam
All Business majors must make a “C“ or higher in all upper-level business courses. All Business majors must complete an assessment exam as a requirement for graduation.

The Agricultural Business concentration prepares students to apply business principles to the unique challenges and opportunities of agriculture through coursework in agricultural accounting, farm and ranch management, and agricultural and natural resources policy. Students develop ethical decision-making skills and an understanding of the interconnected environmental, economic, and social factors that shape agricultural systems.
Bachelor of Business Administration in Management – Supply Chain Management Concentration
The Supply Chain Management concentration prepares students to manage the flow of goods, services, and information through coursework in purchasing, transportation, continuous improvement, and quality systems.
